The Character Development Foundation offers two alternatives for the educator interested in pursuing character education more seriously. We have partnered with Notre Dame College in Manchester, N.H. to use workshops toward earning 3 graduate credits. Secondly, our own Dr. Lori Wiley teaches a weekend graduate course in Portsmouth, N.H. This course is offered through Gordon College in Wenham, Mass.

Notre Dame Course Description

EDU520 - Character Education is a self-paced course consisting of six workshops and six assignments. Self-paced means that students are granted the credits when they have completed the six workshops and assignments. The workshops are offered on a revolving schedule. Some students choose to take all six workshops and do the assignments in a short period of time. Others take longer. You will need to set your own personal goal and we will help you with your time line.

This course has the rigor of a graduate course. Earning credit means you are willing to make a commitment to implementing character education in your classroom and school. The assignments for the course will help you apply the information and techniques you learn at the workshops to your own classroom and school.

Students are given the opportunity to design their own proposals for action research or special interest areas. The instructor must approve these proposals.

When you have taken all the workshops and completed the assignments (or your proposed research), you may present your work in one of the following ways:

    1. An oral presentation at a character education workshop.
    2. A written record through portfolio, journal or formal paper

For those earning credit, please plan to stay at the end of each workshop for an additional thirty minutes to confer with the instructor.
